About the role:
The Sanitation Supervisor leads sanitation operations to ensure the facility and food processing equipment meet GMP, food safety, regulatory, and customer requirements. This role drives continuous improvement initiatives, supports non-conformance investigations, conducts sanitation gap assessments, implements corrective actions, and partners cross-functionally with Operations to maintain compliance with Barry Callebaut standards while promoting a strong culture of food and employee safety.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and promote a strong food safety, employee safety, GMP, and sanitation culture throughout the plant.
- Manage all sanitation operations to ensure equipment, facilities, and warehouse areas are cleaned and sanitized effectively and on schedule.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Master Sanitation Schedules, SSOPs, procedures, and sanitation programs.
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop sanitation team members while managing performance, attendance, vacation scheduling, and employee relations.
- Monitor sanitation effectiveness through inspections, audits, KPIs, and corrective actions to ensure regulatory, customer, and company compliance.
- Partner with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Manage sanitation inventories, cleaning chemicals, supplier performance, and related purchasing activities.
- Lead sanitation investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA activities, and non-conformance follow-up.
- Support food safety programs through environmental monitoring reviews, audit participation, pest control oversight, and trend analysis.
- Ensure cleaning methodologies, tools, and sanitation practices align with global standards and industry best practices.
- Coordinate sanitation-related work orders and support equipment and facility improvement initiatives, including hygienic design recommendations.
- Use data and performance metrics to identify opportunities, improve efficiency, and strengthen sanitation performance across the site.
About you:
- 5+ years of food manufacturing sanitation experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety, sanitation, chemical safety, microbiology, and workplace safety requirements.
- Understanding of sanitation systems and cleaning validation processes, including wet and dry cleaning environments.
- Experience supporting regulatory, customer, and certification standards such as BRC, SQF, GFSI, or ISO.
- Strong leadership, team development, coaching, and performance management skills.
- Excellent planning, organization, communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other business systems; SAP experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and varying start times to support a 24/7 operation.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment requiring frequent walking, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, exposure to heat, and the use of appropriate PPE.

Compensation: Annual Range: $69,850 - $87,300 CAD
Working Hours: 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Shift Details: Day shift with flexibility to support and cover varying shifts as needed in a 24/7 operation
