About the role

 

The Senior Child Labor & Child Rights Specialist will be a key member of the Corporate Sustainability team in Zurich and will report directly to the Partnerships Director. He/she will have a strong working relationship with the Regional/Origin Sustainability responsible to ensure clear translation of design and strategy to execution in the regions. This person will be the key resource in Corporate Sustainability team to drive partnerships with the various internal and external stakeholders in the Child Labor and Child Rights space. He/she will be play an important role for BC to represent the organization in the CL/CR related engagements in the internal and external forums (ICI/UNICEF/ WCF/Governments/NGOs etc.)

 

Key responsibilities include

 

  • Responsible for the delivery of commitments under the Child Labor Pillar in the Barry Callebaut Forever Chocolate Strategy for 2025.
  • Establishing consistent approach for CL/CR strategy across the organization with close collaboration with Origins, Cocoa Horizons Foundation, GCA clients, NGOs and the various origin and destination Governments.
  • She/he will be lead the design and execution of the Child Labor “Comprehensive pilots” with the help of the Pilot team, Origins, NGOs, Multilateral agencies and the Governments. He/She will spearhead the development of a “Community based CL model” that includes the development of the overall design, operating model, costs and execution plans for the same via the Cocoa Horizons program and with other Global Corporate Account clients.
  • He/She should also be  working closely with the “Cocoa Horizons” Team to address the CL/CR piece in the COH.2 methodology which is compliant with the mandated requirements defined by the CEN-ISO standards and thus also meeting the requirements from clients
  • He/She will perform the role of linking the Clients, Donors, and Multilateral agencies, Governments etc. to bring a robust design of existing/new CL/CR prevention and remediation plans/programs and ensure a smooth execution of projects/programs in coordination with the origins.
  • Be the point of contact for Child Labor and Child rights strategy and implementation through development and maintenance of high level of engagement with PARTNERS in the Child Labor/Child Rights space. He/She will be responsible to represent Barry Callebaut in forums related to CL/CR and voice our views and opinions on the topic.
  • Responsible for designing, alignment and translating the yearly targets for CL/CR to the region/country organization.
  • In collaboration with IT/IM DEPARTMENT and M&E DEPARTMENT, make sure that DATA COLLECTION relating to CL/CR Operations gets efficiently done in every country. He/She is part of the decision body on the program/Way of working on all data collection requirements.
  • Helps building and support the country team in defining the CL/CR Operations BUDGET’s monitoring and reporting for GCA, Donor and Client programs. Prepare and oversee program implementation to ensure timely delivery of program activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
  • Prepare timely program and donor reports on child protection project activities in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
  • Public Relations: He/she has will lead the PR and Communications part with the Corporate Communications department and the Origins teams in building a coherent PR and communication plan related to CL/CR pillar for Forever chocolate, Cocoa Horizons and other ad-hoc activities. When appropriate, he/she will be representing BC on public relations events, including customer, client and partner visits

 

About you

 

  • Education to Masters level in Social Work, Human Rights Law, International Relations, Development Studies or similar, or equivalent field experience
  • Min 10 years of professional experience of program management across multiple locations including staff management
  • English a must, fluent French and Spanish are a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in Child Labor and Child protection.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level
  • Multitasking / well organized in a sometimes high pressure environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Management experience
  • Experience in field activities in Origin countries is preferred
  • Travel required in 20+% of the time to Origin countries
