About the role:

 

The Manager Net Zero is responsible for greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting (including Corporate Carbon Footprints and Product Carbon Footprints) and the necessary data processes and systems at Barry Callebaut (BC). These tasks require both a solid technical understanding of GHG accounting and data management, as well as a strong stakeholder management across various corporate organizations and functions. In addition, the incumbent supports the Head of Net Zero in change management processes towards reaching our Net Zero targets across the organization, as well as in the development and delivery of commercial Net Zero solutions for customers. This role reports to the Global Lead of Net Zero.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

 

  • Lead BC’s Net Zero reporting, incl. the annual auditing and publication process
    • Oversee and perform the annual GHG inventory and calculation of BC’s carbon footprint
    • Manage internal cross-functional stakeholders contributing to the reporting. Engage and manage stakeholders from CSD, Sourcing and Customer Experience to ensure seamless processes.
    • Manage external stakeholders including auditors and consultants involved in the process. Coordinate and lead site visits with auditors as needed. Independently resolve open issues during the audit process, escalate as needed.
    • Establish and provide comprehensive documentation of the GHG inventory incl. emission factors, volume/quantity data as well as underlying logics and assumptions.
    • Develop regular Net Zero progress reports for senior leadership and functional leaders within sustainability and the wider organization.
  • Lead alignment and development of data systems/platforms for BC’s Net Zero reporting, including annual company reporting and customer-specific reporting, especially for the Net Zero Chocolate Solutions offering
    • Manage and align stakeholders for necessary data flows within BC and from external service providers (esp. for emission factors and update methodologies). Key stakeholders are chiefly cross-functional, including Digital, CSD (manufacturing, transport & circularity), sourcing (ingredients & cocoa) and Customer Experience (R&D and packaging).
    • Definition of a capable data system that captures BC’s Net Zero reporting and allows easy and reliable analyses & reports for internal decision makers (e.g., cocoa, non-cocoa ingredients, operations and logistics) and customers alike.
    • Improve BC’s GHG inventory data management with internal resources and external service providers
    • Testing and ensuring system usability by iterating with internal and external users
  • Work alongside Head of Net Zero on Barry Callebaut’s Net Zero transformation
    • Translating the Net Zero targets into direction, data insights and accountabilities for BC’s functional organizations and pillars
    • Manage relevant internal, cross-functional stakeholder group for strategic alignment with Net Zero targets, including e.g. transport, factories, Circular Economy, Packaging etc.
  • Support and enable Head of Net Zero rolling out the Net Zero commercial strategy
    • Accelerate the Net Zero Chocolate Solutions customer process by optimizing the underlying tools & reports
    • Support the identification and onboarding of supplier carbon projects with the necessary carbon credit management and chain of custody solution

 

About you:

 

  • Masters or higher degree in environmental sciences, industrial engineering, supply chain management, or related fields
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, including roles as sustainability manager, consultant or similar
  • Knowledge of and experience working with carbon reporting and GHG protocol
  • Strong familiarity with Excel, Power BI and Tableau
  • Professional user of analytics tools (esp. Excel, Power BI, Python, Tableau) and knowledgeable in database solutions and management
  • Proven capabilities in managing projects from beginning to end including defining goals, achieving deadlines, producing comprehensive analyses, data products and reports and working collaboratively in a matrix environment
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience working with carbon reporting and GHG protocol
  • Ability to design, manage and improve processes
  • Ability to strategically communicate your ideas internally and externally, as well as across different functions and managerial levels
  • Capability to engage with and understand colleagues and processes across the whole value chain of Barry Callebaut
  • Passion for corporate decarbonization and climate change mitigation
  • Knowledge of agricultural supply chains is a benefit
  • Ability to operate in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in at least English, German is a plus
  • Demonstrates a diligent working style and analytical rigor
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated with a demonstrated persistence in the face of organizational pushbacks
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, incl. internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work with changing stakeholders in a multi-country & -cultural environment
  • Empathic and patient listener, as well as convincing and motivating for her/his collaborators
  • Willingness to travel up to 1-2 times per month
