About the Role

 

The Head of Cocoa Market Research leads a global and diverse team to develop, produce and communicate proprietary research on futures and physical markets, enabling Trading, Procurement, Sales and Management Teams to maximize profit potential and effectively manage risks in the short and in the long run. Maintaining good relationships with the various internal and external stakeholders is key in this function.

 

Key Responsibilities Include

 

  • Conduct fundamental analysis and maintain proprietary S&D on beans and products in support of Global Trading and Procurement Teams, Sales, VPs and President Global Cocoa as well as Top-customers in order to reduce procurement costs and maximize profits through the successful implementation of trading, arbitrage and cover strategies
  • Forecast global cocoa production and timing of harvest based on proprietary research operations, trend analysis, seasonality and other cutting-edge statistical methods
  • Forecast bean grindings, cocoa product demand and chocolate consumption globally and on regional level based on trade data, competitor analysis and other methods
  • Play a critical role in communicating commodity expectations, risks and trading opportunities to VPs, Sales Directors/Managers and Purchasing Directors/Managers as well as Senior Leadership
  • Proactively develop forecasting models and tools and monitor technology environment (data management and visualization tools etc.)
  • Publishing of monthly cocoa market report, weekly raw materials report and other ad-hoc in-depth analysis 
  • Regularly connect with external market experts to gain relevant market information and a competitive advantage
  • Cultivate a highly engaged and collaborative research team based on 4 continents by being seen as leader on the team, role model and mentor to others, providing inspiration, clarity and direction to team members

 

About You

 

  • Degree in International Economics, Business and / or Agronomy  or similar (Masters preferred) with 4+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in Trading / Fundamental Research / Risk Management / Forecasting etc. ideally in commodity, manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Prior experience in cocoa / soft commodity markets and origin countries will be an advantage
  • Excellent analytical skills: Proven track record for managing complexity, capable of distinguishing key elements in an intricate environment, capable of breaking down complexity into straight forward language that can be understood at different levels
  • Ability to interact and build strong relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on, creative, capable of thinking out of the box and proposing quick-wins and realistic recommendations and successfully implement them
  • High level of self-discipline and ability to self organize
  • Ability to work independently
  • Fluency In English & French a big plus
  • Willing and motivated to travel extensively to origin countries
