About the role
- Barry Callebaut Cocoa and Chocolate products have been present in Japan for several decades. Our Cocoa products and solutions are key defining ingredients for leading Japanese food manufacturers and renowned artisans. To strengthen our cocoa leadership position in this strategic market, Barry Callebaut is looking for a Sales Manager, Cocoa, Japan.
- The Sales Manager, Cocoa Japan will run the day-to-day sales operation in Japan with our long-term Japanese Trade House partners
- The role will report to the Sales Director, Cocoa Japan, and play an important part in our growth strategy in Japan.
Key responsibilities include
- Partner with Japanese Trade Houses in a climate of mutual trust and respect to grow the business and execute sales seamlessly
- Translate customer needs into business strategy to capture commercial sales.
- Provide market updates for the customers in Japan
- Engage with cocoa product end-users to develop relevant and tailor-made cocoa solutions, based on end-user needs and applications
- Identify new business opportunities and be ‘frontline’ representatives with potential customers to engage in business discussions
- Develop external and long-term win-win & strategic relationships with existing key customers (Trade Houses & End-users)
- Proactively reach out to cocoa plants and critical internal stakeholders (Operations, R&D, QA) to embark them on business opportunities and projects
- The role requires frequent travels within Japan and periodic visits to our cocoa processing plants in the Regions (Malaysia and Indonesia)
- Contribute to the Cocoa Japan strategic plan
About you
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree or equivalent
- At least 6-8 years of commercial experience as a minimum in a B2B environment
- Experience with food manufacturers as sales, Trade Houses, Distributors / Importers is a plus
- Experience in agri-commodities like cocoa, dairy or vegetable fats is a plus
- Experience with major FMCG and trade houses is a plus
- Outstanding commercial skills, value & solution selling
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Japanese is a big plus.
- Capable of engaging with both Trade Houses and End-Users, with trust and respect
- Mastery of negotiation skills in B2B environment, advanced and mature communication skills, excellent stakeholder management skills,
- Capable of influencing peers & colleagues across functions, in particular, R&D, Quality
- Hands-on and flexible, capable of getting things done by engaging with various internal stakeholders at various levels in the organization
- Attention to detail and excellence in execution
