About the Role

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for carrying out preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical, instrumentation and mechanical equipment in the plant to ensure the availability of the plant to meet production targets. This role is based in Tema and reports to the Maintenance Coordinator.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Carries out routine or daily inspection and solve mechanical and electrical problems in the plant.
  • Ensure all reports required (job request, shift report…) are accurately and timely filled. Also, to follow – up on all jobs assigned to them but not completed during the shift to ensure that they are closed and well documented.
  • Obtains preventive schedule and breakdown information to undertake maintenance works on electrical, instrumentation and mechanical equipment within red zone and the white zone area of the plant.
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining the utilities equipment (shell and gas boilers, air-compressors, chillers, electric generators. Water supply system)
  • Troubleshoots on defective electrical and mechanical equipment and undertake the necessary repair works.
  • Undertakes emergency or breakdown maintenance activities and where problem is beyond their capability must inform Shift Supervisor to call-in the relevant personnel for technical support.
  • Work hand-in-hand with all technicians in resolving all mechanical and electrical problems quickly.
  • Ensures the full implementation of the QMS procedures related to Maintenance and communicates proposed changes to the Management Representative. This includes the documentation and approval of procedures and work instructions, process forms etc as appropriate.
  • Carry out any duties assigned at the workshop by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Required to man the plant in the event of total shutdown during public holidays.
  • Ensures smooth shutdown and start-up of the line during holidays under the responsibility of the Shift Supervisor
  • Ensure all jobs are done in line with good safety and QA rules
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

 

About You

  • HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification (e.g. Industrial Maintenance Technician Part III, Level II) with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification, hands-on relevant working experience.
  • Strong background in plant mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Good knowledge of programmable logic control (PLC) systems
  • Ability to diagnose hydraulic and pneumatic faults and identify root causes
  • Ability to interpret mechanical diagrams and make modifications
  • Knowledge of basic welding (advantageous)
  • Good knowledge of the food processing industry, Food Safety, Food Defense and HACCP
  • Strong troubleshooting ability; able to work confidently and independently
  • Analytical mindset with good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail and a team player
