POSITION TITLE: Engineer, Facilities

REPORTING TO: Maintenance Manager

LOCATION: St. Albans, VT




Job Summary:

The Engineer, Facilities is responsible for planning, scheduling, implementing and maintaining the infrastructure and support equipment of buildings and facilities. 


Essential Functions:

  • Observe all safety, sanitation, GMP and HACCP requirements
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all facilities systems 
  • Perform some skilled trades work/troubleshooting relating to HVAC, chiller, boiler, air compressor, electrical or plumbing
  • Works with outside vendors as a project manager for the installation and repair and/or assembly of all facility related equipment
  • Make routine or special inspections of the facility and grounds to determine necessary repair work
  • Schedule building system repair and preventative maintenance to support equipment such as sprinklers, chillers, boilers, air compressors, air dryers, internal and external drainage systems, overhead doors, rooftop environmental control equipment and drains, including HVAC units, exhaust fans, generators, and UPS systems
  • Assist in the continual improvement of facilities department operations and maintenance procedures
  • Tracks, charts, and records facility equipment conditions and parameters to ensure that they are operating efficiently
  • Support manufacturing in the maintenance and operation of production equipment





  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Formal trade school, vocational training or equivalent experience and certification in one or more of the key building trades (HVAC, refrigeration, licensed plumber, licensed electrician) 


Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in facilities maintenance
  • Must be proficient with office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as computerized machine control platforms
  • Experience in facilities/maintenance operation 24/7, high-volume manufacturing, preferred
  • Flexibility and availability to work outside normal hours to handle emergency repairs or situations
  • Strong project management
  • Strong communication skills both orally and written
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and work with minimal supervision; also works well in team environment
  • A strong goal-orientation and high energy level are critical
  • Familiarity working with a company experiencing rapid growth

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to work at high heights, ie. on roofs, aerial lifts, elevated platforms, up to 50 feet while wearing

fall protection and proper PPE

  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs; occasionally with mechanical assistance
  • Able to lift 50 lbs; regularly
  • Able to lift 100 lbs, occasionally 
  • Kneel, squat, bend, stoop; frequently
  • Twist, stretch, reach overhead; frequently
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Push/pull up to 1,500 lbs using assisted equipment ie. pallet jack up to 2,000 lbs
  • Able to walk up and down stairs; frequently
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures 
  • Noise level can exceed .85 decibels
