Fat Lab Analyst
The COE Fat Lab Analyst is an expert in chemical analysis of fats and oils and performs analysis of individual materials (fats, oils, etc.) and finished products (chocolate, compounds, liquor, etc.) using Gas Chromatography (GC) and other analytical techniques. The person operates, calibrates, and maintains GC equipment to ensure accurate results. The person also records and reports analytical data in compliance with quality standards. As part of the role, the person must always uphold laboratory safety and good laboratory practices.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Analytical Testing: Perform analytical tests using GC according to validated methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring high-quality and reliable data.
- Data Recording and Reporting: Accurately record, interpret, and report results using laboratory information management systems (LIMS), ensuring traceability.
- Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: conduct routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting on laboratory equipment to guarantee optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Barry Callebaut’s quality standards.
- Collaboration: work closely with colleagues in Quality, R&D, and Production to share analytical results, support investigations, and contribute to continuous improvement in product quality and processes.
- Technical Documentation: Maintain thorough and up-to-date records of analyses, calibrations, equipment maintenance, and quality control checks to support audits and traceability.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in method development, validation projects, and initiatives to enhance product quality.
EDUCATION, LANGUAGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Analytical Science or equivalent
- At least 10 years of hand on laboratory testing experience, preferably in the fat industry with hands-on use of GC
- IT skills: LIMS, data analysis software, and MS Office Suite.
- Fluent in English

- Operation of Analytical Instruments: Proficient in using laboratory equipment, especially Gas Chromatography (GC) instruments for testing fat samples
- Instrument Calibration and Maintenance: Ability to calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex analytical equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Analytical Method Execution: Experienced in following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and validated analytical methods for food safety, quality, and flavor assessments.
- Data Analysis: Capable of using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software to interpret GC results and report findings accurately.
- Documentation: Accurate and timely recording of all laboratory results and procedures.
- Laboratory Safety: Knowledge of chemical handling, risk assessments, and compliance with safety protocols.
