About the role
- China is one of Barry Callebaut’s key compound hubs in the Asia Pacific. This role is responsible for overseeing all non-cocoa sourcing activities in the country. The position will drive new key initiatives in China, particularly in cost savings opportunities with suppliers/ RnD for the key material categories such as Sugar, Oils, Dairy, and Specialty Ingredients. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate closely with the regional sourcing team to ensure the procurement of high-quality materials and importation and close interactions with the local sales team on open-book businesses and building local market intel.
Key responsibilities include
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
- Accountable for the implementation of local projects across the supply base and functions to achieve maximum year-on-year return while maintaining BC core ethics and values
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sourcing processes, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
- Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry developments to inform sourcing decisions.
- To build collaborative business relationships with local and regional stakeholders.
- Key business partner in driving the sustainability agenda across the country.
- Negotiate the best pricing model with suppliers for the assigned portfolio in China.
- Drive localizations of raw materials used by the industry.
- Work closely with local R&D to drive cost opportunities for the business.
- Analyze sourcing metrics and key performance indicators to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business Commercial subject or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of experience with track records of delivering cost savings targets, non-price value opportunities, and risk management.
- Experience in the local oils and fats market is an additional advantage.
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyze sourcing data, market trends, and supplier performance metrics to inform strategic decision-making
- Contract Management: Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts/agreements with suppliers to ensure favorable terms
- Cost Management: Knowledge of cost analysis techniques and strategies to control expenses, reduce procurement costs, and maximize cost savings
- Risk Assessment: Ability to assess and mitigate risks associated with sourcing activities, such as supply chain disruptions
- Market Research: Proficiency in conducting market research and competitive analysis to identify potential suppliers, assess market dynamics, and benchmark pricing
- Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire peers and external stakeholders, provide direction, guidance, and support to achieve departmental goals
- Problem Solving: Aptitude for identifying sourcing challenges, analyzing root causes, and developing innovative solutions to overcome obstacles
- Change Management: Ability to lead and support organizational change related to processes, systems, and strategies
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Cross-functional Collaboration: The Capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
