The Regional SHE Specialist will play a vital role in implementing BC’s Safety, Health, and Environment Programs in North America. The role will develop and implement training programs to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and BC internal standards. This role will support implementing a Safety and Environmental Management System. To continuously improve our safety and environmental performance, this role will collect, analyze, and report on key data. Additionally, he/she will monitor regulatory requirements (mainly focus on US and Canada regulations), collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, and continuously improve our SHE programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the implementation of Barry Callebaut Safety, Health, and Environment Concepts and Programs, as well as regulatory standards, by collaborating with plant teams
- Track the status of mandatory inspections, permits, testing, and assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Develop and conduct training programs to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, BC programs, and internal rules. Conduct site audits, analyze results, derive and follow up on actions.
- Manage the closure of critical corrective and preventive actions in the Barry Callebaut CAPA tool
- Support the implementation of an Environmental Management System (based on ISO), starting with one manufacturing site and then supporting roll-out in more locations
- Support the sites with environmental risk assessment as needed, focusing on setting improvement actions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, subject matter experts, and external partners to stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging regulations.
- Participate in the development and lead for the sites in scope the implementation of applications and tools supporting the SHE program
- Assess the performance of SHE programs through data analysis and regular management reviews, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Follow up on SHE Capex investments
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to SHE programs and activities.
About you:
- College degree in Engineering, Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. A master’s is a plus.
- 5-7 years working experience in Safety, Health, and Environment.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs.
- Strong knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations and best practices.
- Certification in relevant safety, health, and environmental programs (e.g., OSHA, ISO, WSIB) is a plus.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations and mandates (Mexico, USA, Canada is a plus)
- Experience working with and desirable, additional qualifications in Safety, Health, and Environment:
- ISO 1400 - Environmental Management System Requirements
- ISO 45000 Series (Occupational Health & Safety)
- Project Management experience.
- ISO 9000 auditor certification is a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications, Articulate 360.
