About the Role:

Barry Callebaut’s production facilities and warehouses are rapidly evolving into connected, automated and data-driven environments. Digital platforms such as MES (or Manufacturing Execution System) and EMS (or Energy Management System) are key enablers for standardized food safety and operational excellence within Barry Callebaut, and are important prerequisites to delivering data driven innovation and smart factory applications.

At the core of these digital industrial applications is standardized, secured and monitored Operational Technology (OT). This provides the backbone for a safe, reliable and trusted production and storage process, decreases the risk for a security breach, and safeguards data quality.

The mission of an OT Systems Engineer Lead - Americas is to drive the change program that transforms the 20 Barry Callebaut factories in the Americas region into such digital environments.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing site-specific OT and digital masterplans at Barry Callebaut production plants in the region, in accordance with the global roadmap for digital manufacturing. The goal is to achieve compliance to global OT standards and to deploy digital platforms and solutions such as MES and MES. This implies changes in people, process and technology.
  • Identifying investment demands and managing project budgets, timelines and quality.
  • Supporting BC production sites during troubleshooting and incident response in case of an OT incident (= level of escalation).
  • Supporting global and local E&A engineering teams in implementing OT standards in growth and productivity projects.
  • As a team of Digital Manufacturing Lead and Experts, improving global digital standards, implementing local site feedback and market innovations.
  • Participating in expert communities with digital manufacturing professionals working at local and global level.
  • Direct internal stakeholders are plant managers, site OT champions and digital engineers, engineering E&A leads and project engineers, and global and local IT teams.

 

 

Scope:

  • Member of the global Engineering & Technical Innovation team and reporting to the Director Center of Expertise Digital. Part of a global team of OT and digital manufacturing engineers.
  • Direct responsibility for operational technology in 20 BC production sites. Involved in all 62 BC production sites, a total of over 10,000 digital assets, with ages up to 35 years, and a multitude of dedicated software applications (SCADA, PLC, MES, EMS, …). Failure of each one of these assets impacts production and potentially shuts down an entire factory.
  • Responsible for defining and governing multi-year investment roadmaps in digital manufacturing across all production sites in the region.
  • Opportunity to drive digital programs that are at the core of the CSD organization.

About you:

  • You have a master degree in engineering.
  • Language skills: Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory. Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage.
  • You have at least 10 years of experience of working in an industrial automation and digital manufacturing environment and showcase expert knowledge of OT environments.
  • Experience with design and configuration of the Siemens and/or Rockwell automation and network portfolio is required. Experience with the Aveva product suite is considered a plus.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in designing and implementing Digital Manufacturing or Smart Factory solutions.
  • Knowledge of international standards for industrial automation (ISA95) and industrial cyber security (ISO27001, NIST, IEC62443) is an advantage.
  • You have experience of working in a multinational business context, preferably in (food) manufacturing.
  • You have experience in managing complex capex investment projects.
  • Travel requirements: Prepared to travel approx. 20-25% of the time.
