ABOUT THE ROLE
The Safety, Health and Environment Specialist leads site‑wide SHE programs to ensure legal compliance, reduce risks and environmental impact, and strengthen a proactive safety culture. As part of the Plant Management Team, this role plays a central role in fostering a strong safety culture and supporting sustainable operational performance. The position drives continuous improvement, manages SHE incidents, and provides expert guidance across the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, maintains and leads the implementation of the local safety and environmental management systems
- Leads SHE incident management and drives management of relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow up
- Conducts SHE meetings, audits and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective and preventive actions and implement follow up assessments.
- Provides site employees, contractors and visitors with guidance on health and safety and confirms site complies with Barry Callebaut, industry, local, state/provincial and national guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Response Plan and serves as primary contact for site SHE incident notification, investigation and case management.
- Integrating occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management
- Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems
- Drive positive SHE culture, through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Gemba safety talks and training, and putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors
- Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed and use the results to drive further improvement.
- Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHE KPIs and targets - SHE Scorecard
ABOUT YOU
- Master’s degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent industrial experience
- Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities: to add by the location
- Project Management skills
- Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification a plus
- Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working a plus
- Good working English required
- Understand the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a factory-based role: Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Quality
- Experience with SHE management systems and risk management
- Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department
