About the role

This R&D role works as a regional technical lead, collaborating with cross-functional heads including sales, business development, sourcing, OSCO, quality, and finance, to deliver strategic outsourcing projects and to lead the regional value creation funnel. This role interacts with a regional leadership team including the CEO, CFO, country MDs, sales VPs, and functional VPs, to provide regular updates on the projects, and to seek input and agreement from the regional leadership team. This role is a key member of the regional R&D leadership team and reports to VP R&D Asia Pacific.

 

Key responsibilities include

  • To manage and coordinate value creation funnels in APAC, by collaborating with cross-functional teams including country R&D, regional R&D, OSCO, sourcing, finance, sales, and quality, to deliver the value creation ambitions in APAC. Frequency: Daily.
  • To manage and coordinate outsourcing projects in APAC, by collaborating with cross-functional teams including country R&D, OSCO, sourcing, finance, quality, sales, and business development, to deliver growth targets by outsourcing projects in APAC. Frequency: Daily.
  • To interact with ingredient suppliers for value creation projects and outsourcing projects. Frequency: Daily or weekly
  • To interact with customers for outsourcing projects. Frequency: Daily or weekly
  • To update the regional leadership team and steerco for project progress, to seek input and agreement from regional leadership and steerco. Frequency: weekly or monthly.
  • The regional role covers markets including Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, and India, covering production sites in Japan, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, etc.
  • Cross-BU role, covering cocoa, chocolate FM, GCA, and gourmet

 

About you

  • Minimum university education in food science and technology, biology, chemistry, or equivalent subjects, prefer master’s degree or above.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience in product formulation, application, scaling up in the factory, and troubleshooting in the food ingredient industry, preferably in cocoa, chocolate, compound, vegetable fats, bakery goods, or ice cream industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience in highly complex project management.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience in team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and customer engagement.
  • Fluent in business English and preferably also fluent in one of Asia languages including Chinese, Japanese, or Malay.
  • Good knowledge of the value chain of cocoa, chocolate, vegetable fats, bakery goods, and/or ice cream.
  • Outstanding analytical skills, presentation skills, negotiation skills, and influencing skills.
  • Travel requirements: estimated 10-25% travel time
  • Passionate in food development, persistent in pursuing the goal, creative in seeking the solution, entrepreneur in exploring the unknown, and high in business integrity.
  • Outstanding cultural sensitivity, prefer experience in cross-culture teams or customers.
