About the role
The business is very exposed to the volatility of the commodities market. Good governance of such a business requires accurate and regular risk reporting, analysis, and control. Hence, the Commodity Risk analyst will report directly to the Risk Manager APAC and play a key role. 

Key responsibilities include

  • Preparing and performing checks in the daily, weekly, and monthly reporting 
  • Performing reconciliation of futures against broker statement 
  • Acting as a key expert in derivative related master data maintenance, including onboarding new products, the extension of new trading periods, and derivative brokers
  • Providing adequate support to the risk team on ad-hoc transactional requests
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the firm’s systems and processes
  • Internal stakeholders
    • Sourcing, Sales & customer service teams
      • Ensuring data integrity in the front office systems (Polomas and SAP), containing all physical trades and futures for Asia, checking against trader workbench
      • Adhoc request to set to O for trade validation to facilitate the contracts/invoice flow 
    • Trading Manager (Cocoa and non-cocoa)
      • Performing futures reconciliation against broker statement and system 
      • Highlighting to the trading manager when there is a discrepancy in futures booking against broker statements 
      • Ensuring that trading managers are compliant with the risk management policies 
      • Performing close-out procedure for match out/expired futures in SAP 
      • Reconciling futures brokerage 
    • Risk Manager and Group Risk
      • Updating daily cocoa and non-cocoa market prices into price sheet 
      • Doing the first level of checks on all reports  e.g. Daily trading exposure, net structure reporting, combined ratio report, futures mark to the market report, non-cocoa pnl, certified ledger, consolidation open portfolio, past due beans, beans forecast, ASTOCK reporting, month-end inventory, month-end risk reporting, and IFRS9 reporting
      • Updating of stocks into polomas regional position
      • Preparation of mid-year and year-end closing HET documentation 
    • Customer service team, sales team, and Cocoa finance business partner: Preparation of transfer pricing proposal for all Cocoa Asia sites and consolidating them for release to the customer service and sales team
    • Thailand and India accounting team: Reconciliation with local accounting sales reporting and perform manual drawdown in polomas system 
    • IM/IT teams
      • To resolve daily system issues
      • As part of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance systems and processes, as well as the new business need
  • External stakeholders: 
    • Derivatives brokers
      • Futures matching with brokers 
      • Liaising when there are brokerage issues
    • Auditors: Financial year-end audits


About you 

  • A Bachelor's degree in finance/economics or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • At least 1-3 years of working experience in finance/audit/accounting/banking/commodity back office 
  • Experience with commodities is a plus
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Meticulous in details and possess excellent analytical skills
  • Great command with Microsoft Excel, SAP, BW
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills as frequent communication with stakeholders from various departments would be required
  • Possess great team spirit and yet able to work independently as required
  • Positive working attitude with a high degree of initiative and is adaptable to change
  • Able to effect change in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, and enjoy learning
