Commodity Risk Analyst, Reporting and Analysis

About the role

  • The business is very exposed to the volatility of the commodities market. A good governance of such a business requires accurate and regular risk reporting, analysis and control. Hence, the Commodity Risk analyst, analysis & reporting will report directly to the Risk Manager APAC and play a key role in:
    • Preparing and performing checks in reports to ensure that the price risk management activities of the desk are captured timely within the trading systems and that the resultant pricing exposures carry the relevant fair values consistent with internal mark-to-market standards.
    • Ensuring the traders are compliant with the risk governance framework
    • Acting as a key expert in derivative-related master data maintenance, including onboarding new products/brokers, extension of new trading periods and liaising with derivative brokers
    • Provide meaningful analysis and explanations for performance and risk numbers in the reports
    • Raise, investigate and follow up on issues related to data quality and content of the reports
    • Proactively evaluate weaknesses, redundancies and inefficiencies in existing processes to continuously improve productivity, accuracy and reporting capabilities
    • Providing adequate support to risk team/support stakeholders on ad-hoc requests

 

Key responsibilities include

  • Preparation of reporting to capture pricing exposure, trading strategies and profit & loss (Pnl)
  • Working daily with various regional stakeholders (Trading, commercial & Sales, sourcing, customer service, logistics, treasury, accounting and local controllers) to ensure data integrity is upheld in the front office systems on our full portfolio (physicals, inventory and futures)
  • Ensuring all trading managers comply with the risk management governance framework (trading mandate limit, stop loss limit, etc.) and all costs (clearing, brokerage) are well recorded in the systems.
  • Drive the understanding of the trading strategies employed by the desk, pricing exposures and P&L generated by the trade book and the key drivers of fair value or marked-to-market generation.
  • Manage daily physical forecasting process with commercial and sourcing team
  • Identifies, analyzes, and communicates trends and issues affecting the business, able to drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and Excel dashboards
  • The role supports the full Asia portfolio (Cocoa and ingredients) and requires the development effective relationships with multiple stakeholders

 

About you

  • At least 3-5 years of working experience in commodity risk management/ FP&A/financial controlling
  • Strong ability to work on complex reporting
  • Strong understanding of trading, operations, risk and mid/back-office business processes, policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Advanced grasp of trading deal structures, interpreting positions, P&L, mark market, and financial analysis
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline, preferably in economics/finance or a related discipline with a good understanding of reporting, forecasting and analysis techniques
  • High proficiency in Excel, Power BI and BW are required. Technical skills (SQL, Python, R, Tableau), FRM and handling of large analytical datasets are preferred.
  • High proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships
  • Self-motivated individual who functions well in an unstructured environment.
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines in a very fast-paced business environment
  • Ability to multitask with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
