The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting quality, food safety, sanitation, and continuous improvement initiatives.  The specialist will provide assistance and direction for quality technicians and plant operators as well as lead external and internal audit programs.  The Food Safety Specialist will monitor, trend and track corporate and external quality metrics and perform other quality and food safety related duties as requested.


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Conduct audits as assigned and required (GMP,ISO, HACCP, BRC, etc)
  • Provide guidance for food safety and quality programs
  • Create and maintain calibration schedule, handle instrument non-conformances and vendor contacts as appropriate.
  • Maintain, update procedures and conduct required and appropriate training
  • Monitor and Maintain HACCP, CCP, QCP sheets and communicate issues.
  • Perform special projects as assigned (Committees, continuous improvement, etc).
  • Oversee testing and inspections for refinished and raw materials, review results, communicate non conformances, maintain appropriate records and logs.
  • Train and update QA and plant personnel in procedures and methods.
  • Promote a safe working environment and good GMP’s
  • Committed to providing a safe food product
  • Works within all regulatory requirements
  • Perform all other related duties as requested


About you:

  • BS degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent experience.
  • High degree of computer literacy.
  • Working knowledge of GMP’s, HACCP, Sanitation, ISO and working SPC/statistical knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and delegate
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
