About the role

The Safety, Health, Quality and Environment Manager manages and coordinates all safety, health and environment programs, processes and activities in order to maintain a compliant and safe work environment. This role drives excellence in safety, health and environment across the site to achieve best safety and sustainability results. The SHEQ Manager will develop the local strategy to deliver legal compliance and ensure execution of BC Standards. This role will assure the implementation of programs to drive reduction of safety incidents and environmental harmful impact. The SHEQ Manager leads and manages SHEQ related incidents on site. This role provides guidance and support on relevant SHEQ matters. The SHEQ Manager is a member of the Plant Management Team.

In addition, the SHEQ manager is responsible for site food defense,  security and the external security team. Also the internal and external cleaning department is in the responsibility of the SHEQ manager.

 

Key responsibilities include

  • Designs, maintains and leads the implementation of the local safety and environmental management systems
  • Leads SHEQ incident management and drives  relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow up
  • Conducts SHEQ meetings, audits and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective and preventive actions and implement follow up assessments.
  • Provides site employees, external workers and visitors with guidance on health and safety and confirms site complies with Barry Callebaut, industry, local, state/provincial and national guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Response Plan and serves as primary contact for site SHEQ incident notification, investigation and case management.
  • Supports integrating occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management
  • Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems
  • Drive positive SHEQ culture through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Behavior Based Safety Talks, Safety Gemba Walks and training, putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors
  • Coaches the Site Safety Ambassadors
  • Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHEQ KPIs and targets - SHEQ Scorecard
  • Responsible for internal (4 FTE)and external cleaning (1 FTE) department
  • Responsible for onsite security and food defense.
  • Responsible for external site security team (7 FTE).
  • Responsible for site facilities

 

About you

  • Master degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent industrial experience
  • Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities: to add by the location
  • Project Management skills
  • Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification is a plus
  • Good working English required
  • Understand the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001
  • You have 1-5 years experience in SHEQ environment
  • Experience with SHEQ management systems and risk management
  • Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department
