About the role:

 

The Environment Specialist integrates the BC environmental strategy in the daily operations and management of the site(s). The activities include the deployment of environmental routines, maintaining compliance and permits, and supporting the company’s environmental goals. This role ensures the site meets its environment related regulatory and BC requirements. The Environment Specialist drives the programs to deliver on reducing the environmental impact, preventing and managing environmental incidents, provide training, review and consolidate permits and regulatory gap analysis, and identify and implement best practices. Core internal stakeholders are the plant manager, project engineers, process & manufacturing teams, quality and maintenance teams in the site locations. External stakeholders include suppliers, contractors, consultants, regulatory authorities and auditors. The role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the company’s environment goals by driving the Environment and Circular Economy ambitions.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for organizing regular review of compliance to local laws and permits to identify potential gaps (now and future).
  • Ensure compliance by defining action plans to close the gaps with permits and legislation compliance. This includes setting clear and actionable milestones, managing internal and external stakeholders and assessing the feasibility of potential solutions.
  • Develop the environmental management system in line with BC global expectations, following up on actions and ensuring these are implemented within the given timelines
  • Continuous improvement by sharing and implementing best practices within BC
  • Educate and engage the site(s) for the Circular Economy ambitions of BC.
  • Drive the priorities to achieve Zero Landfill and significantly improve Waste recycling and valorization.
  • Lead the incident and root cause analysis of major and critical environment incidents, in collaboration with the local team.
  • Ensure that all relevant incidents are shared according to defined procedure and lessons learned implemented.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of relevant data is in line with group procedures
  • Hold regular reviews with the SHE manager and plant management team
  • Raise an awareness and training regarding environment and circular economy. This includes running meetings, hands-on training sessions, coaching the site teams, regular updates on environmental legislations. Develop and manage a site level recognition program for environmental awareness.

 

About you:

 

  • 3–5 years’ experience in an environmental specialist role, ideally within manufacturing or food production.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental management systems, regulations, permits, and compliance; ISO 14001 experience is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent).
  • Fluent in English;
  • Audit experience is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver environmental projects, managing budgets, timelines, risks, and external contractors.
  • Analytical and results‑driven, able to identify inefficiencies and implement practical, cost‑effective improvements.
  • Confident problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator, working effectively across functions and stakeholders.
  • Able to influence and engage teams and leadership on environmental initiatives.
