About the Role

 

The R&D function, within the CI&TS team, is responsible for driving innovation and supporting the strategic objectives of the Barry Callebaut Group. The primary focus is on delivering innovation projects from concept to market launch, ensuring timely and full delivery.

The R&D Manager will lead specific projects related to new sustainable ingredients that can drive product innovation. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this role ensures that R&D activities are aligned with the company's strategic goals and business opportunities, contributing to the successful introduction of new products

 

Key Responsibilities Include

 

  • Lead projects focusing on sustainable ingredients introduction to drive product innovation at Barry Callebaut.
  • Work autonomously to develop, test, and validate technological hypotheses that contribute to sustainable solutions and new scientific insights.
  • Present findings and updates to senior management and participate in steering committee discussions on projects.
  • Collaborate with external partners (research centers, universities, etc.) including open innovation partners to advance sustainable technologies and integrate external insights.
  • Manage relationships with 3rd parties, ensuring sustainable solutions are delivered within timelines, budgets, and food safety standards.
  • Safeguard Barry Callebaut’s intellectual property related to sustainable innovations in collaboration with internal and external teams.
  • Work with Regional R&D, Operations, and Procurement to ensure smooth handover of sustainable innovations for manufacturing and market roll-out.

 

About You

 

  • Master’s or PhD in Science, Engineering, Applied Biological Sciences, Sustainability, or related field, with a strong foundation in food chemistry or technology.
  • 3-5 years of experience in sustainable product development or research, ideally in the food industry.
  • Experience in project management, especially in sustainability or multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present sustainability initiatives to diverse audiences.
  • Fluent in English, with global collaboration experience.
  • Passion for sustainable innovation, with a willingness to challenge traditional approaches.
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial, and able to deliver sustainable projects with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a focus on transforming ideas into actionable plans.
  • Team player, capable of fostering collaboration in a sustainability-driven culture.
