About the Role
Barry Callebaut is the largest chocolate and cocoa producer in the world. As a leading company in the industry, Barry Callebaut has set very ambitious Sustainability targets. One of the main pillars is to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the company. For the Operations and Supply Chain Organization, reducing the CO2 emission in the manufacturing and supply chain activities is the major goal. Developing and deploying cost-competitive sustainable energy solutions is the key to achieving this goal.
The mission of the Global Energy Innovation Engineer is to design, implement and promote energy solutions and services that support Barry Callebaut’s Operations and Supply Chain Organization in obtaining its ambitious Sustainability agenda.
This role is a Global role, located in Wieze (Belgium), and gives you the opportunity to change the energy and carbon footprint of Barry Callebaut’s Operations and Supply Chain, and as such deliver a key contribution to the ambitious sustainability ambition of Barry Callebaut.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Design and implement site-specific sustainable energy improvement plans and technical solutions at Barry Callebaut production plants and warehouses, to support the global roadmap for Sustainability.
- Define and validate standards of new energy solutions, including operations and maintenance, in coordination with regional champions, engineering departments, and sites. Contribute to the development of engineering standards of process equipment, to ensure that all new-built production lines and factories are sustainable.
- Support the regional and local engineering teams and energy champions in implementing sustainable energy and engineering standards in production and storage facilities worldwide.
- Creating training material on sustainable energy solutions, with the purpose to increase awareness, educating, and advocating for sustainable energy at the regional and local levels.
- Participating in internal expert communities with energy professionals working at the local, regional, and global levels.
- Build up a strong relationship with suppliers and industry peers, in view of future collaboration and be at the forefront of innovations and market trends.
- Direct internal stakeholders are the Head of Global Operations Sustainability, plant managers, site energy champions, regional engineering and energy teams, and regional and local asset & maintenance teams.
About You
- You have a master's degree in engineering, preferably in the field of Energy
- Language skills: Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
- You have at least 5 years experience of working in the field of energy solutions or power generation
- You have experience working in a multinational business context
- You have experience in managing complex projects
- You have expert knowledge of energy solutions, including thermodynamics, mechanics, and electrical engineering.
- You are skillful in creating business cases, defining financial returns of investment projects, and financing models of energy projects.
- You are familiar with various types of energy contracts (e.g. ESCO, PPA, leasing) and carbon trading mechanisms.
- You are a strong communicator, able to interact with various stakeholders, often with different business objectives and operating at different levels in the organization (global, regional, local).
- You have strong organizational skills, setting up and managing multiple projects in parallel.
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit and seek new ways of solving problems
- Experience with manufacturing processes and their energy consumption profiles is an advantage.
