ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Safety, Health, and Environment is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Safety, Health, and Environment programs and practices to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role involves monitoring workplace compliance with safety regulations, identifying and mitigating risks, and fostering a safety-conscious culture across the organization, aligned to BC standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, maintains, and leads the implementation of the local safety and environmental management systems
- Leads SHE incident management and drives management of relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow-up
- Conducts SHE meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective and preventive actions and implement follow-up assessments.
- Provides site employees, contractors, and visitors with guidance on health and safety and confirms site complies with Barry Callebaut, industry, local, state/province, and national guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Response Plan and serves as primary contact for site SHE incident notification, investigation, and case management.
- Integrating occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management
- Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems
- Drive positive SHE culture, through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Gemba safety talks and training, and putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors
- Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed and use the results to drive further improvement.
- Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHE KPIs and targets - SHE Scorecard
ABOUT YOU:
- Safety Technician and Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications are highly desirable.
- Solid experience in a safety management role, preferably in high-risk manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001) and risk assessment tools.
- Proficiency in safety-related software and reporting tools.
- Good working English required
