About the Role
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining automated production processes. He/she plays a key role in ensuring an efficient and reliable production process, with safety, quality, and productivity as top priorities. He/she collaborates with the technical and operational teams to improve existing systems and ensure continuous optimization of the chocolate production lines.
The Automation Engineer will play an important role in developing and rolling out the maintenance vision of the technical manager according to global standards. He/she must be an expert in the CMMS (today Maximo) system. With a clear understanding of the existing maintenance plans and reporting methodology, the candidate has good knowledge of the various production processes and a thorough technical knowledge. Thorough knowledge of both GMP and safety standards are critical
Participation in a stand-by system on a rotating basis with the other technical managers is necessary in this role.
Key Responsibilities include
- Studying the project along with its problem statement
- Preparing the specifications document in collaboration with other departments
- Assisting in resolving malfunctions
- Analyzing and comparing quotes
- Placing orders for the projects
- Monitoring the project at every stage and resolving any issues that may arise
- Testing and commissioning the new or modified installations
- Ensuring that all backups of our automated systems are up to date
- Training production and maintenance personnel to operate the new installations
- Initiating, coordinating, and implementing improvement projects
- Discussing structural and technical problems and malfunctions with the Automation Manager, Technical Coordinators, and Engineering
- Encouraging the Technical Coordinators to continuously seek improvements for installations and infrastructure
- Regularly organizing meetings and briefings with the Technical Coordinators, discussing results and necessary improvement initiatives
- Overseeing the maintenance and upgrade of existing PLC equipment
- Providing technical advice to other departments (Engineering, Maintenance, Production, etc.)
- Study and sharing information on new automation techniques
- Ensuring the correct mandatory training plan for new I&A technicians.
About You
- You have a Technical Bachelor's degree - Industrial Engineering with 5 years’ experience or equivalent through experience.
- French and Dutch: a very good knowledge of both languages for communicating with employees in the team and in the production plant. English: Good knowledge for communicating with colleagues in other sites, giving presentations and reading international instructions and guidelines

- Knowledge in Maximo

- At least 5 years of experience in a production environment, preferably within a technical service.
- experience as an automation / project engineer
- expert in ( Siemens ) PLC & HMI programing
- Insight / knowledge of technical maintenance work.
- Knowledge preventive maintenance plan is a plus.
- Good knowledge of occupational safety, food safety and quality standards (GMP, ISO, ...)
- Good knowledge of mechanics, electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, engines
- Good knowledge of production processes
- Has knowledge of failure analyses, preventive control methods and methods for continuous improvement.
- Has insight into the relationship between machine settings and the impact on production activities.
- Good knowledge of software (Windows, Excel, Word, SAP, Maximo, Coupa ...)
