ABOUT THE ROLE

The Phys/Chem Lab Technician is responsible for the correct application of updated physical-chemical laboratory procedures for reagent preparation, sampling and physico-chemical analysis. He/she understands the basics of safety management when handling toxic chemicals.

 

KEY RESPONSABILITIES INCLUDE

● Comply with safety, quality and food safety rules in the laboratory

● Ensure that physico-chemical analysis of products in progress and finished products are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with analytical protocols and good laboratory practice (GLP)

● Ensure that analysis records are well documented, verified and maintained. Ensure weekly backup of physico-chemical data.

● Support the root causes analysis of physical-chemical deviations and implement corrective actions related to physico-chemistry to prevent their recurrence.

● Ensure that the management of laboratory equipment is well done: daily calibration of measuring devices, cleaning and maintenance of

laboratory equipment.

● Ensure laboratory supplies of consumables are available on time, ensure minimum stocks are maintained to avoid shortages

● Ensure the safety and hygiene of the production and physico-chemical laboratories.

● Provide analytical support to production (physico-chemical analysis on Tanks, reservoirs, moulding and cake bagging and in production)

● Sample management: verification of quality, quantity and conformity of information) before transmission for microbiology analysis.

● Prepare samples for dispatch and ensure that samples are sent to other laboratories on time

● Capture, share end-of-shift reports and perform any other tasks or engagements within or outside the     department as required by the hierarchy or management.

● Update analysis results and take part in the Ring Test.

● Ensuring compliance with good laboratory practice, ISO 17025 standards, safety rules and instructions.

● Timely reporting and updating of laboratory documentation and analytical records.

● Ensure continuity of activities by covering the work of other laboratory technicians in the event of leave or absence.

● Take samples for investigations or tests.

● Support the laboratory manager in achieving a high level of compliance with standards and specifications

● Carry out improvements/investigations and projects.

● Carry out the mandatory training courses and the training plan assigned to him/her

● Reduce wastage in the consumption of reagents and accessories and carry out an inventory of laboratory stocks

● The physical-chemical lab technical works within a local scope. He/she is member of the physical-chem lab team.

● He/she deals with : QA colleagues (QA stream leaders, Microbio Lab technician, Sensory Coordinator, Food Safety Coordinator, QA Beans Lab Leader), Operations (Operators & supervisors), Maintenance technician, end product storekeepers.

 

ABOUT YOU

● BAC+2/3/Bachelor of Physics-chemistry /Food Science/Biochemistry/Microbiology

● Languages: English professional, French.

● Chemical laboratory technician

● Communication skills

At least 2 years' practical laboratory or quality assurance experience in an HACCP environment in an FMCG organization (good

understanding of customer specifications).

● Knowledge of MS Office suite, SAP

● Ability to carry out analyses using standard methods
