The Sr. Manager, R&D Technical Services coordinates a team of Technical Advisors and consults in all technical service and application support-related issues for the Americas. Reporting to the VP R&D Americas, the Sr. Manager will be responsible for helping to further grow the business for all of Barry Callebaut Americas with great applications and technical service to customers. The incumbent is responsible for solving technical problems at the customer site and helping Customer R&D translate customer requirements into projects and new products. Provides technical support to existing and new customers in order to create new market opportunities. Brings innovative solutions for new applications or customer needs supporting the other R&D Project Managers within the Americas. Provides technical service for customers on site for all issues, start-ups etc. Finds solutions for customers or internal BC factories. Works with equipment and ingredient suppliers to support work with both customers and BC.
The Sr. Manager is responsible for aligning the application lab capabilities according to the needs of the region and defines best practices for the application lab.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advise customers in application and choice of the right product range, suitable to the installation and physical environment of the customers’ plant(s). Provide technical support to existing and new customers, and create new market opportunities.
- Visit customer sites and perform technical problem solving together with customers.
- Ensure the resolution of all application problems in the use of industrial and gourmet chocolate and coatings.
- Provide necessary technical and operational support to R&D Project Managers in Americas, support other customer projects where necessary.
- Participate actively in the various projects of the Research and Development team and have close interaction with Sales, Operations and Quality Assurance.
- Assure development of internal and external clients’ relations and maintain communication.
- Provide necessary technical support to vendors, clients, and BC operations when problems occur with products.
- Travel where needed to customers, suppliers, internal cross functional teams or R&D in other locations
- Work together with the Technical Services Advisors to organize and run training courses on applications and the product range for customers and internal staff. Advise the sales team on technical and application matters.
- Advise/Assist all departments as needed on any technical issues relating to the manufacturing of chocolate products.
- Lead presentations to customers and conduct demonstrations to customers
- Application work on new product development for Gourmet, FM, corporate customers or proactive innovations. This includes also suggestions for optimal recipes and application/production parameters.
- Support R&D and marketing department when requested for events, meetings, trade shows etc.
About you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology Sciences, Food Engineering, or Food Science; Diploma in Pastry/Bakeries or equal by experience
- 8+ years of experience in Chocolate Industry / Product Development Lab with good technical service experience
- Resolute, capable of working under pressure and managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal relationship skills
- Strong analytical mindset willing to take initiative to make changes
- Flexible and willing to travel as needed
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite and database management
- Fluent in English. Knowledge of multiple languages is an asset

Expected salary range: $138K-180K USD annually
