About the role: 


The Automation Engineer will provide full life-cycle support of automation systems within our operations related to the manufacturing of chocolate and cocoa products. You will be involved in developing and designing the concept, testing, installation, and monitoring of automation processes. You will work with the team to ensure that all applicable project objectives, policies, procedures, state and federal laws, and ISO requirements are met.


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Accountability for complete project execution including team leadership, control panel engineering, SCADA design, PLC and HMI programming, and site start-up support of integrated systems
  • Manage project resources, including people, time, and budgets to successfully achieve project goals
  • Manage the automation and controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up.
  • Program, configure, test, and commission PLC and HMI based control systems
  • Direct and oversee the maintenance of programs for PLCs and PCs coordinating with Process Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, Information Technology staff, and Production and Maintenance personnel
  • Develop and execute complex process control system integration projects of small to medium size and significant complexity simultaneously
  • Perform project deliverables independently while adhering to scope, schedule, and budget constraints
  • Support P&ID process development in conjunction with Process Engineers and Project Engineers
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide knowledge and counsel to others
  • Deliver technical expertise in the bid process
  • Guide and train others with less experience through mentoring and project leadership
  • Oversee the development of controls functional scope for projects, negotiate the scope of projects with site leadership, and support the project through the funding approval stage
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing production/processing controls equipment
     

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree
  • At least 7 years of related automation experience with HMI, SCADA, PLCs, and general control system design
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial automation systems, including HMI and SCADA systems, Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, Siemens and Schneider PLCs
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC5, SLC500) PLCs, PanelView/PanelviewPlus HMIs, Industrial Communication Networks (Ethernet, EthenetI/P, DeviceNet, DH+, etc.) is required
  • Experience with FactoryTalk Suite, Wonderware Suite, and VisualBasic/C#/Java is a plus.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical or other related electrical CAD systems such as EPlan
  • Ability to lead a team and accomplish project goals effectively
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines

  • Travel moderate to high, 40% to 60% based on assigned project locations
