POSITION TITLE: Corporate Process Engineer


REPORTING TO: Process Engineering Manager


LOCATION: St. Albans, VT

The Barry Callebaut Group serves the entire food industry, from industrial food manufacturers to artisanal and professional users of chocolate, such as chocolatiers, pastry chefs, bakers, hotels, restaurants, and caterers.




Essential Functions:


  • Provides process engineering design, implementation/commissioning services and maintenance support of manufacturing processes and equipment. Engineering services may include equipment specification, process design, and process development/improvement.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts of equipment, recipes, processing issues and deviation investigations.
  • Analyzes process requirements and evaluates equipment and systems to ensure deliverables meet or exceed process specifications and manufacturing requirements.
  • Evaluates and recommends new process technologies that optimize performance, are cost-effective, and will improve product quality and manufacturing techniques.
  • Analyzes trends and reports on data generated to characterize scale-up and performance/functionality of processes and to improve product/process quality, consistency, productivity, efficiency, and risk levels.
  • Provides significant contributions on project teams and may lead multi-functional teams.




Education & Work Experience:


  • Working closely with other specialists, including: personnel responsible for the quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products; engineers responsible for plant maintenance; commercial colleagues on product specifications and production schedules; and the operating crew;
  • Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved;
  • Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts;
  • Monitoring and improving the efficiency, output and safety of a plant;
  • Reviewing existing data to see if more research and information need to be collated, and assessing the adequacy of the existing processes and equipment;
  • Designing, installing and commissioning new production units, monitoring development (i.e., modifications and upgrades) and troubleshooting existing processes;
  • Applying the principles of mass, momentum and heat transfer to process and equipment design;
  • Using computer modelling and simulations to design and evaluate processes and operating systems for the manufacture of products;
  • Ensuring the process works at the optimum level, to the right rate and quality of output, in order to meet supply needs;
  • Ensuring that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations;
  • Liaising with other process engineers, perhaps working on associated plants;
  • Managing the cost and time constraints of projects.
  • Apply and use industrial engineering and lean manufacturing skills in most projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • 5 years of experience on the field in similar functions/position
  • BS Engineering degree
  • Project management approach
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office software and Windows Operating System
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision – Resourcefulness
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Attention to details
  • Communication skills - team player



  • Must be willing to travel 25-50%
