POSITION TITLE: Assistant Applications Chef

REPORTING TO: Lead, R&D Technical Culinary Applications

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summary:

Under the direction of the Lead, R&D Technical Culinary Applications, the Assistant Applications Chef is responsible for providing support in the Applications Lab and assisting in any necessary areas.  The Assistant Applications Chef is able to follow directions and complete tasks in an efficient and effective manner.  Assists in customer innovation projects, sample making, equipment upkeep and lab organization and cleaning under the supervision of the Lead R&D Technical Culinary Applications. 

Essential Functions:

  •  Assist with research related to internal testing projects and/or customer driven applications
  • Assist with recipe and application development for courses, customer sessions and demonstrations
  • Support R&D and Marketing departments when requested for events, meetings, trade shows, etc.
  • Follow recipe scaling and production for customer projects in an accurate and timely manner
  • Participate actively in the various projects with the Applications Lab team
  • Assist before and during classes, customer sessions and demonstrations.  This may include scaling ingredients, printing course materials, coordinating with Academy staff, setting up and breaking down work stations for the Chef and students.
  • Support R&D and Marketing departments when requested for events, meetings, trade shows, etc.
  • Have a full understanding of lab tools and processes
  • Track inventory and assist in ordering of supplies and ingredients
  • Ensure proper care and upkeep of application lab equipment
  • Assist with various office and administrative duties when necessary, including photo database of R&D applications
  • Maintain organization and cleaning schedule of storage areas and laboratory and keep a high hygiene standard
  • Perform all other related duties as requested
     

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Work Experience:

  • Baking or Pastry related degree or equivalent experience and training
  • 1+ years’ experience in a Pastry Arts related job
  • Specific knowledge in properties and functions of chocolate
  • Refined communication skills, both written and oral
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and basic computer skills
     

Additional Requirements:

The Assistant Applications Chef must be comfortable being able to lift boxes up to 50 lbs and spending the majority of the work day on their feet.  He or She must be able to have good time management skills and have the ability to undertake various tasks.
