The Senior Buyer, Indirect Spend role in Chatham, Ontario, is responsible for managing OPEX and CAPEX purchases for the site, as well as supporting regional strategic projects. The position oversees the indirect buying process, ensures compliance, drives value for the region and company, and builds strong stakeholder and supplier networks. It also leads key strategic initiatives aligned with Barry Callebaut’s core values.
This is a permanent, full-time position from Monday to Friday.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities for OPEX and CAPEX categories
  • Develop and apply short- and long-term purchasing strategies aligned with regional and facility goals
  • Identify, and maintain relationships with  qualified suppliers/vendors
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Deliver savings targets and support budget reduction strategies through sourcing initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with global/regional agreements, purchasing policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with internal departments and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Support corporate spend and Capex projects across departments (e.g., QA, Marketing, HR, IT)
  • Generate reports and track purchasing KPIs on a regular and basis
  • Ensure safe food product supply and maintain a list of qualified secondary sources

 
About you:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field (mechanical/technical) required.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Indirect Purchasing with category management experience in MRO or Capital spend.
  • Fluent English is a must, knowledge of French is preferred.
  • Word, Excel, Power Point, Lotus Notes, SAP & Maximo.
  • Technical background with experience in capital projects and strategic sourcing
  • Proven leadership in team management, coaching, and motivation
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Skilled in negotiation, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset and time management skills
  • Travel requirements: 15% to 20% travel (domestic and regional)
