Electrical & Automation Controls Technician

 

The Electrical & Automation Controls Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager. This position is responsible for the electrical controls and process programming of plant infrastructure and production equipment. The Electrical & Automation Controls Technician is cognizant and understanding of food and employee safety and ensures application in their daily routine.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

 

  • Perform routine diagnostic checks on automated systems, monitor automated systems, isolate problems and perform repairs.
  • Strong skill set with AB programmable logic controllers (SLC, PLC, and Control Logix families), (Siemens S7 a Plus) as well as Human Interface (HMIs) such as AB PanelView, FactoryTalk View and Wonderware.
  • Ability to configure, test, troubleshoot and commission AB and Siemens VFDs.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and commission PLC and HMI based control systems with the ability to make minor programming changes.
  • Direct and oversee the maintenance of programs for PLCs and PCs coordinating with Process Engineers, Project Engineers, Information Technology staff, and Production and Maintenance personnel.
  • Guide and train others with less experience through mentoring.
  • Understanding of industrial power circuits, installation practices, and general OSHA safety practices.
  • Understand the plant electrical criteria, standards and company guidelines.
  • Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instrumentation such as temperature sensors, pressure sensors, level switches, valve actuators and positioners and weighting systems.
  • Enforce PLC/HMI policy/procedures.
  • Document system modifications in order to maintain an accurate registry of modifications.
  • Ability to adhere to GMPs and all other food safety requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all food and employee safety policies and procedures.

EDUCATION, LANGUAGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree

Others: Environmental / Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to freely move around entire facility.
  • Ability to work in and be exposed to heat.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend and reach over and under all equipment on a concrete floor for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in high areas, freely move around the entire facility indoors and outdoors as well as.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE / TECHNICAL OR FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

 

  • At least 3 years of related automation experience with HMI, SCADA, PLCs, and general control system design. 
  • Experience in food industry is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial automation systems, including HMI and SCADA systems, Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, Siemens and PLCs.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC5, SLC500) PLCs, PanelView/PanelviewPlus HMIs, Industrial Communication Networks (Ethernet, EthenetI/P, DeviceNet, DH+, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk Suite, Wonderware Suite, and VisualBasic/C#/Java is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Measuring instruments (Micrometer, calipers, Tape Measure Thread Gauges).
  • Ability to support a 24/7 365 production facility.
