About the role:

The Food Safety Coordinator will ensure that the plant operation and all the products produced comply with the Food Safety and Food Defense Standards and Requirements established by the Barry Callebaut Corporate the FSSC 22000 standard and by each of our customers; monitoring, updating, and reporting process information related to suppliers, raw materials, operating conditions, labor, product in the process, packaging material, finished product and logistics of warehouses and shipments. Demonstrate ownership of plant and food safety, including regulatory requirements.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct analytical testing of products; samples during the process and conduct QA/QC tests and responsible for EMP program accomplishment.
  • Document Control; assist with the establishment of Standard Operating Procedures relevant to the factory; prepare and maintain required documentation of test results.
  • Lab Calibration Program and training of standards by maintaining a clean lab and calibrating laboratory equipment, operating and training manuals.
  • Conduct quality audits; evaluate test data and deviations, verifies Certificate of Analysis (COA). Process all non-conforming products against company-established quality standards FSIR, CAR.
  • Monitor inventory levels, and order materials and supplies (QA lab).
  • Assist with new employee orientation and training.
  • Certified Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)
  • Ensure government and company minimum requirements and policies are respected.
  • Provide support to correct key customer complaints.
  • Provide support for any food safety incident.
  • Support 1+ and Quality Culture, Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Liaise with R&D, production, and sales teams to assist with effective and efficient new and transferred product execution.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment and QC material supply inventories.
  • Comply with all department and customer-specific quality, safety, FSSC 22000, and food safety policies and procedures
  • Collect and review production activities and records in accordance with the company and customer quality management systems.
  • Track, analyze, and trend of food safety incidents.

 

About you:

  • The Food Safety Coordinator will have a solid knowledge of food safety systems requirements and a technical knowledge of food safety regulatory requirements. The Food Safety Coordinator must be able to work independently, work well under pressure, interact with customers, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Food Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in food safety and/or manufacturing. Experience in the field of food manufacturing; Chocolate process knowledge is a plus.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Special knowledge expertise with GMP’S, HACCP, Quality Systems, Standard Operating Procedures, test methods, and taste testing skills.
  • Must be willing/open to work on weekends and evening shifts if needed.
  • Must be willing to do sensory tests for chocolate and raw ingredients.
  • General knowledge of food technology.
  • Strong knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, and FSSC 22000 (or equivalent GFSI standard).
  • Correspond and interact professionally and ethically with all levels of the organization and customers/vendors.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths and ability to work effectively with a team are required (computer software skills to include LX, Google Work Apps, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required).
  • Excellent communication skills (presentation, report writing).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Knowledge of SAP (QM module).

  • The expected annual pay range for this role is $62,000 to $71,000.
