Under the Leadership of the Regional Technical Manager, the Regional Energy & Utilities Manager leads, jointly with the site, the improvements to meet the Group target by reducing year on year the Energy consumption per ton. That reduction rate is calculated based on year challenges and following group objectives. The job holder will have to work in a matrix organization with the plants and the corporate functions like the global OSCO sustainability manager, other regional energy managers, corporate process development team, and corporate engineering/project team. Role is based in Abidjan.

Energy consumption

25% of the factory costs are related to energy. The regular disruptions in the power and water supply stop (partially) the plant and increase our costs. We expect that the candidate will push/create projects to reduce the energy costs (good use and technology) while ensuring the continuity of the energy supply by increasing reliability and gaining autonomy.

  • In-depth knowledge on the cooling/steam / compressed air/water treatment installations
  • Set up the level of maintenance expected for each kind of equipment, in line with suppliers recommendations
  • Detail the sources of consumption (good use) and share across site improvements
  • Ensure the quality of the energy supplied (eg: dry compressed air)
  • Support the site in implementing the energy savings initiatives and perform site energy and maintenance audits
  • Develop a plan to track all kinds of wasted energy (compressed air, gas consumption...) in the distribution as well as at the point of use.

Assets management

Keeping the assets in good shape (equipment) is key for the development of the region as we foresee increasing the capacity in Africa.  The culture in place needs to be more focused on maintaining the assets than replacing them.

The job holder will gather existing information on the different sites (equipment performance, existing maintenance plan…) and will lead a methodological analysis per kind of energy and asset and will work together with the regional Asset Manager to develop the right maintenance strategy on all utilities related assets.

He will also lead “technical audits” to ensure that what is defined is in place and the excellent use of Maximo is key for success.

  • Standardization of maintenance procedures (planning & resources) in coordination with suppliers/plants and the regional asset manager
  • Estimate the need of having (or not) maintenance contracts with suppliers by Balancing insourcing & outsourcing to get optimum service.

Capex projects

The job holder will have to participate in the elaboration of the Capex plan for the region by taking into account BC strategy and the local Capex needs.

  • Increase capacity by adding new equipment
  • Upgrade of old equipment or replace equipment with higher efficiency equipment when needed
  • Review the set-up of each plant to be energy efficient  (equipment have been added along with the volume growth)
  • Give visibility for Green Energy projects  (long term) in cooperation with the Energy champions
  • Ensure that the Capex for Energy/Utilities contributes to the energy reduction target
  • Suggest new technologies (breakthrough) in energy efficiency, renewable energy.

Training & Best practices sharing

The job holder is in a supportive role to increase performance. So, ensuring that the people are well trained is key. And the regional dimension will be in increasing the knowledge (up) and share experiences;

  • Share major incidents/findings
  • Share major improvements
