About the role

 

As a Food Ingredients Category Buyer you will be tasked with accurately procuring raw materials at the best overall value, ensuring that quality, cost and delivery are all balanced. You will be working with suppliers covering all aspects of the purchase from putting commercial terms in place to ensuring that raw materials are delivered as per agreed conditions. You will be managing the strategic and operational sourcing process for specific assigned categories (Food Additives, Sweeteners)  over Barry Callebaut sites in Europe, as well as Africa, Asia and America, according to the strategy defined together with the Global Category Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities include

 

  • Work closely with the Global Category Manager to make sure that purchasing goals are well achieved, according to defined strategies, business priorities, Group policies and principle
  • Prepare & implement the sourcing category strategy for the materials in scope
  • Setting up a planning structure to serve the network of Cocoa and Chocolate plants
  • Initiate & support sourcing projects (e.g. sustainability, site integration, portfolio simplification
  • Handling operational, logistic and quality issues (non conformities)
  • Handling of daily pricing questions (key accounts, daily price updates)
  • Ensure maximum cost avoidance by soliciting pricing bids/quotes and run tenders
  • Supplier relationship management: maintenance of supplier data in SRM
  • Negotiate legal agreements with suppliers to define supply, prices, service, confidentiality conditions…
  • Support the implementation of sustainable sourcing strategy for the portfolio
  • Share best practices and market knowledge with the regional and local buyers

 

About you

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of  experience in purchasing within the food or chemical products industry, specific experience in specialty food ingredients is a plus
  • Good knowledge in SAP  S/4 and specifically  in MM- Material management, Salesforce.  Good proficiency in data handling in Excel, Google Sheets
  • English fluent written and oral, French, German is a plus
  • Confidence combined with negotiating, influencing and networking skills
  • Clear communicator in written and orally
  • Ability to function independently 
  • Having a sense of urgency to minimize lead times and maximize service levels provided to stakeholders
  • Collaborative, able to work closely and understand the needs of business partners at the Plants, Pricing, R&D, QA, etc.
  • Entrepreneurship and pro-active
  • Able to coordinate efforts of different stakeholders to reach objectives of value engineering, cost savings initiatives, or other projects
  • Good analytical skills; ability to quickly and effective analyze data and make sound decisions
  • High energy with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, transformational work environment
  • Conflict management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with and constructively challenge purchase stakeholders
  • Willingness to help drive change throughout the organization
