About the Role

 

As a member of the OSCO Innovation and Technology team, you are designing and implementing fundamentally new technologies for the production of consumer goods, starting from cocoa and chocolate products.

These technologies result in significant improvements in the production of existing products or enable the production of new products, covering specific needs for our customers.

 

Key Responsibilities Include

 

  • You search for opportunities to improve the current production process and you investigate alternative processes for the production of existing and new products;
  • You own a project from the idea generation, experimental design, pilot scale testing up to the finalization and industrial implementation.  You lead technological developments, in cross-functional projects, from lab-scale to implementation on the Gemba
  • You contribute to the implementation of finalized processes on the shop floor. During implementation you remain the contact for advice and assistance; you ensure factory and on-site testing activities, commissioning, and qualification and to support the users for start-up.
  • You set up tests, analyze results, draw conclusions based on data, document in a thorough manner, organize technical meetings and assist in the technical workout;
  • You work simultaneously on multiple larger and smaller projects;
  • On the basis of your process know-how, you also provide process technology input in engineering projects. You cooperate closely with multiple internal departments: Operations, R&D, Engineering, Continuous improvement, as well as with external parties such as suppliers and research groups.
  • Gradually, you will become an in-house expert for chocolate production. You act as advisor in your area of expertise, sharing knowledge and proposing improvement projects; You ensure knowledge and know-how within your area of expertise is continuously updated and relevant; You provide specialized training and support to internal, including active participation in relevant projects
  • You make sure that the development work within your responsibility complies with internal quality rules and external legislation such as health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • You report to the Corporate Process Development Manager chocolate. You work in a team with other Process Development Engineers;
  • You work in an international team on local and international projects;
  • You are based in Wieze or Halle, Belgium, but are willing to travel as needed to suppliers, customers, and other Barry Callebaut plants;

 

About You

 

  • You have a Master degree Civil Engineering (option chemical engineering, electromechanics, … ), Bioscience-engineering, Chemistry or Physics
  • 5-10 years experience in a food production environment in a Process, CI or Operational role, experience with lean management is a plus
  • You know how to apply project management in a research environment and complete a project in a structured way.
  • You have strong affinity to data-driven process improvement and are able to set-up design-of-experiments at a lab and industrial scale.
  • You have a strong background in process management and/or instrumentation.
  • You are fluent in English, knowledge of Dutch and French is advantage as you need to communicate in an international context
  • You are motivated to profoundly learn about processes and remain continuously aware of new trends and technologies within your area of expertise.
  • You have a broad interest in technology and are continuously collecting know-how to deliver state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Your entrepreneurship and technical skills allow you to realize creative and out-of-the-box thinking ideas.
  • You have strong analytical skills and work in a solution-driven manner.
  • You are a hands-on team player, and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others.
  • You can focus on your own responsibilities while being able to work in multi-disciplinary teams (R&D, Continuous improvement, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain)
  • You are willing to travel on an occasional basis.
