About the role:

The Legal Counsel will deal with the legal aspects of Barry Callebaut’s business in EMEA Region, with a focus on Western Europe. S/he will effectively ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure. The incumbent will be located at Barry Callebaut’s largest site in Wieze (Belgium) and will travel to other sites in EMEA Region and the headquarters in Zurich on an occasional basis. The Legal Counsel reports to the Senior Legal Counsel in Wieze.

Ideally, we are looking for a Master in Law with 2 to 5 years of experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and handling corporate legal matters. An excellent knowledge of English and Dutch and a good knowledge of French is required.

Key responsibilities:

• You will give accurate and timely counsel to executives and non-executives in a variety of legal topics, with focus on contract, commercial and corporate law.

• You will research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations and design and implement legal processes across EMEA Region. You will apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.

• You will communicate and negotiate with external parties, thereby creating relationships of trust. You will contribute to the set-up of a reliable network of, and instruct and monitor external legal counsels in EMEA Region.

• You will draft and solidify agreements, contracts, templates and other legal documents to ensure Barry Callebaut’s full legal rights and contribute to the standardization of legal documentation.

• You will manage and monitor legal disputes and litigation.

• You will ensure compliance with corporate housekeeping and reportorial requirements for the Belgian entities and monitor the fulfillment of these requirements for other entities in EMEA Region.

• You will deal with complex matters and projects with multiple stakeholders and forces.

• You will conduct your work with integrity and responsibility, sensible to the interests of stakeholders in and outside the Legal Department.

• You will monitor internal governance policies and deal with individual compliance cases in collaboration with the Group Compliance Officer.

About you:

• Master degree in Law.

• 2 to 5 years of work experience at an international law firm or as in-house counsel in a multinational company, preferably in a similar industry.

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of contract law and corporate law.

• Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation.

• High degree of professional ethics and integrity.

• Sound business judgment and ability to quickly analyze complex situations and information; pragmatic and solution-oriented way of working.

• Outstanding communication skills; proven ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization.

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

• Proficiency in English. Proficiency in Dutch or French.
