The Maintenance Apprentice is part of a team that is responsible for supporting and safely maintaining Barry Callebaut equipment to produce the highest quality product. In performing the above function, GMP practices and HACCP requirements are to be satisfied.  

Key responsibilities include: 


  • Assist with Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance of Barry Callebaut LLC operations;
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment problems, identifying root causes, and making repairs on production equipment;
    • Support production by ensuring the safe and proper operation, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment;
    • Mechanical troubleshooting, i.e. hydraulic and pneumatic, pumps, gear reducers, etc.;
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of maintenance upkeep and compliance;
  • Perform duties with close supervision;
  • Generate, complete, and close work orders using a computerized maintenance management system;
  • Maintains equipment, parts and supplies needed for the work. Works with Spare Parts Technician on inventory levels;
  • Communicate with Maintenance Supervisor for direction, to keep supervisor informed of problems and equipment that is not operating properly;
  • Assist with established PM and PdM activities and identify new opportunities for improvement;
  • Must be able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings
  • Follow all GMP, HACCP and Safety regulations and guide lines
  • Perform all other related duties as requested

About you:


  • Maintain a clean, neat and safe work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations;
  • Participate in the safety related training programs;
  • Ensure the proper documentation of repairs, listing parts, record keeping and following the work flow process;
  • Must promote a safe working environment and good GMP practices
  • Committed to providing a safe food product
  • High school degree or GED equivalent required, technical school preferred;
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Able to understand basic production process, including interaction between raw materials and process equipment
  • Willingness to develop skill set and product knowledge through classroom, hands-on and virtual training.
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated and driven; Desire and attitude to excel
  • Thrives in high-pressure, fast paces and dynamic environment
  • Able to follow work instructions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills including MS Office, Google, etc.;
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building relationships and positive work culture.
  • Works within all regulatory requirements
